Matthew Whalen, Ph.D. Student

Matthew Whalen joined the Dantzer Lab in Fall of 2019 as a Ph.D. student. Matt is working with the Kluane Red Squirrel Project to investigate how animals integrate environmental cues in order to coordinate behavioral responses. Matt received his BS in Biology and Physics at Creighton University in 2018. His interest in animal behavior research started at Creighton where he investigated life-history trade-offs in sand crickets. After graduating, Matt worked with Alum Service Corps as a high school biology teacher in Kansas City where he found a passion for communicating science. Outside of the lab, Matt considers himself an avid cinemaphile but also enjoys skiing, photography, playing rugby, and hiking with this dog.
