Invasive Species Crew Leader: The pay rate is $15.58 per hour. The Invasive Species Crew Leader will assist in managing invasive terrestrial plant treatments and supervise the other seasonal workers from May through September 2022. The exact dates of the position depend on the successful candidates’ availability. Work will include meeting regularly with seasonal staff, organizing invasive species treatments, contacting landowners, managing the portable boat wash, entering and updating grant and invasive species data and treating invasive plants manually or chemically. The Crew Leader will need to become certified to treat invasive plants with herbicide once hired. Applicants should have a degree in a natural resource field.
Invasive Species Technician: The pay rate is $15.14 per hour.Invasive Species Technicians will work weekdays from May through September 2022. The exact dates will depend on availability.Work will focus on managing invasive plants through surveying, mapping, and manually removing plants or chemically treating plants with herbicide. The technicians will work independently in the field daily. They will collect and enter data in Excel and databases and assist in educational programs about invasive species. Technicians will need to become certified in Wisconsin to treat invasive plants with herbicide once hired. Applicants should have at least one year of college in a natural resource field.
Clean Boats, Clean Waters Intern: The pay rate is $12.98 per hour. The schedule is Thursday to Sunday from May 31 to September 2. (Flexible start and end dates.) Work will focus on Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) outreach, education, and watercraft inspections at boat landings in Bayfield, Ashland, Iron and Douglas County. Interns will wash boats and other equipment with a portable pressure washing unit at boat launches. They will share invasive species information through informal conversations and scheduled programs. Most of the work will be in the field without direct supervision. Successful candidates will also assist the staff with outreach programs, invasive species management, and aquatic invasive species surveys.
Qualifications for all positions: Knowledge in identifying native and invasive plants and an understanding of invasive species concepts is preferred. Must be responsible, detail-oriented, flexible, and have good communication skills. Must be able to occasionally lift a maximum of 50 pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather. A valid driver’s license is required.
