The development team for WordPress websites felt that choosing three widely-used, responsive, and well updated themes would be a great starting place for the pilot program. Customizing and managing themes in a multisite network can be time consuming and it comes down to what is supportable by the Web Services team. Because of the amount of time and testing needed to fully configure, understand, and brand a theme for our network we decided it would be best to start with a manageable number. The more themes we have installed, the more difficult it can be to provide excellent support to our users. As we get further into this project our team can start to look into expanding our theme selection – but we do plan to always stick within the University’s branding guidelines for websites.
