WSU and U-M Present on Basic Fatigue Research at the SLEEP 2023 Annual Meeting

Faculty and researchers from CF MURI partners Washington State University (WSU) and the University of Michigan (U-M) recently presented on “Basic Fatigue Research: From Molecular Underpinnings to Comprehensive Brain Modeling of Sleepiness and Cognitive Fatigue” at the June SLEEP 2023 annual meeting.

SLEEP 2023, the 37th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS), was held on June 3-7, 2023, in Indianapolis. The APSS is a joint venture of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society. The SLEEP meeting is the premier clinical and scientific meeting focused on sleep medicine, sleep and circadian research, and sleep health. SLEEP 2023 featured more than 130 exhibits, nearly 1,000 research abstract presentations, and 4,000 attendees, speakers, and exhibitors (source). The 2023 program is available online here.

Hans Van Dongen (WSU) served as the research session chair. CF MURI researchers Daniel Forger (U-M), Brieann Satterfield (WSU), and Brendon Watson (U-M) contributed talks on the following topics:

  • Electrophysiologic Signatures of Sleep and Circadian Rhythms on Forebrain Networks (Brendon Watson, MD, PhD)
  • Genetic and Neural Correlates of InterIndividual and Task-Dependent Differences in Cognitive Impairment During Sleep Loss (Brieann Satterfield, PhD)
  • Large-Scale Mathematical Models of Sleep and Fatigue (Daniel Forger, PhD)
