TEAM MEMBER TAKES COLLABORATORY VALUES TO MEDICAL SCHOOL

Collaboratory member Tony Tran is headed to Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine.

Tony joined the From Africa to Patagonia Collaboratory project in fall 2017 and initially began coding acoustic data. Tony became one of the team’s senior TextGrid checkers in Praat, a software program used for speech analysis.

Tony credits his time in the Collaboratory with deepening his awareness of doctor/patient interactions: “Working in the Collaboratory taught me how complex humans are, which is important in medicine. Your patients are more than simply an illness; they are complex human beings who are influenced by their surroundings and culture.”

“I believe having learned to take a holistic viewpoint will help me in medicine in the future,” says Tony. “On my Collaboratory team, I found a community of people who were ambitious, innovative, and hardworking, a family that motivates me to be the same.”

Tony graduated from Michigan in May 2020 with a BS in Biomolecular Science and Spanish.
