In early November, the Humanities Collaboratory’s Singing Justice Project Grant team will connect with international scholars and audiences in Europe. Their work towards recovering the African American voice in Song will reach new dimensions with a tour co-organized by project partners at the Hampsong Foundation.

Group members will lead a symposium held at the Music Conservatory in Stuttgart, Germany, in collaboration with the Hampsong Foundation and International Hugo Wolf Academy. (Above: A bilingual promotion for the Singing Justice seminar recital to be performed on November 5.) They will also participate in the 37th Klangraum Festival in Stuttgart.

The group will then travel to Vienna, Austria, to meet with Exilarte for a research exchange day. Exilarte is a “Center for Banned Music” at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, which uncovers works by Jewish composers from the late 19th through 20th century and brings back the music of composers silenced by the Nazis.
