The Project Grant team Singing Justice: Recovering the African American Voice through Song is working to disrupt limited narratives in musicology and center the creative contributions of Black musicians, poets, singers, and composers. Their work was recently the focus of a hybrid symposium in Stuttgart, Germany. Hosted in collaboration with the Internationale Hugo-Wolf-Akademie, the event was titled “Singing Justice Conference: Decentering whiteness in vocal music,” and held November 4-6, 2022.

Project partners at the Hampsong Foundation have compiled a photo and video gallery of the conference presentations and performances. For more detail, see the bilingual conference program (German, English).

With this conference, Singing Justice seeks to forge a trans-atlantic network of scholars, performers and administrators dedicated to changing the landscape of music education and performance for the future.
