Gallery Exhibit Opens; Preparations Underway for Workshop

The Narrating Nubia team is happy to present “Narrating Nubia: The Exhibition.” The Gallery Exhibit is open for public viewing at the Duderstadt Center Gallery on North Campus, from Tuesday October 3, to Friday October 27.

Through an array of multimedia displays — from a presentation focusing on ongoing fieldwork in Sudan to an animated film about Egyptian Nubia to a podcast featuring interviews with artists and intellectuals from Sudan and the diaspora — the team presents a visual and interactive exhibit weaving together Nubian pasts, presents, and futures.

This free exhibition is open from 12pm-6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. More information can be found on the teams webpage here.

The team is also holding a workshop October 19 and 20. Keynote speaker William Carruthers, Lecturer in Heritage Studies, University of Essex, will be discussing the intersection of tourism, colonialism, and archeology in forming the modern fabric and collective understanding of the Nubian region. The Keynote will be held October 19 from 4pm-6:30pm in the Collaboratory space in the Hatcher Graduate library and is open to the public.

The exhibit in concert with the teams workshop capstone the three year project. The team is led by PI Yasmin Moll (Assistant Professor, Anthropology) and co-PI Geoff Emberling (Associate Research Scientist, Kelsey Museum of Archaeology; Lecturer, Middle East Studies).
