Collaboratory to Host Research Infrastructure Events

The Collaboratory, as part of our effort to build lasting humanities research infrastructure, is offering a series of upcoming orientations.

On March 7, “Research Resources: Landscape of External Funding,” will give humanists a slimmed down peek into what the search for external funding looks like and help early career faculty to identify potential funding institutions. The LSA Research Office will take the lead and OVPR and Foundation Relations will contribute. RSVP here.

On March 15, Foundation Relations and OVPR are hosting an informational panel on the Guggenheim Faculty Fellowship program. The panel will consist of successful UM faculty applicants. This event will be virtual and is open to the humanities, arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. The Collaboratory orientation cohort is invited to join in. RSVP here.

Finally, on April 10, we will host Jesse Johnston, Clinical Professor of Information and former senior program officer at NEH, to lead “Research Resources: Introduction to the National Endowment for the Humanities.” This event will provide an introduction to the NEH and their relevant granting programs. RSVP here.

We held our first event in October –  “An Orientation to Research Resources for Humanities Scholars at Michigan.” This gave attendees an opportunity to see what research at Michigan looks like – and included information about pathways to funding and administrative support. LSA Research, the Office of the Vice President of Research (OVPR), and representatives from UM Library collaborated to offer a so-rich-it-boarded-on-overwhelming initial orientation.

“These events are a great opportunity to learn more about resources available to humanists, and, for new faculty members,to find out what the process of finding funding is all about. Our first event was great, and I look forward to working with LSA Research, OVPR, and Foundation Relations more as we bring these events to our faculty members. I know I certainly would have benefited from these resources when I first started out, and I hope faculty who attend are able to get a lot out of this information.” -Kristin Hass, Collaboratory Faculty Coordinator
