History

From 1998-2011, the Department of Chemistry provided fellowship support for graduate students interested in future faculty preparation through the US Department of Education’s GAANN Program (Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need). GAANN identified, as one of its goals, encouraging our best domestic graduate students to pursue academic careers.
GAANN Fellows had the option of getting involved in instructional development projects of their choosing. They also organized a seminar/brown-bag/panel program that exposed them to various aspects of academic life. This program was called CSIE: Chemical Sciences at the Interface of Education, and is the precursor to CSIE|UM.
