PhD Student
He/him
Matt received his B.S. in Neuroscience from Boston College in the lab of Dr. Caroline Smith prior to joining the 40 Lab as a PhD student in September of 2025. Matt’s previous work highlighted gene expression analyses of neuropeptide systems and immune system regulators in a mouse model of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Currently, his research interests in the 40 Lab are focused on elucidating behavioral changes in social play in response to early life stressors. More long-term, his interests and projects will focus on neonatal LINE1 knockdown and its effect on this behavior, as well as the impacts of the retrotransposon LINE1 on resilience and susceptibility to mental illnesses such as substance use disorder (SUD).
When not playing with rodents, Matt enjoys watching movies, enjoying superhero-related media, playing video games with friends, and testing his baking skills.
