Mengxiao Zhang, Masters Student

Mengxiao is from Shanghai, China. She graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2022 with a major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a minor in Data Science. Due to a strong passion for animals and nature, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the School for Environment and Sustainability, specializing in Ecosystem Science and Management.

Mengxiao joined the Dantzer Lab in 2022 for her master’s thesis. During the summer of 2023, she spent three months at the Ecology Research Center in Miami University in Ohio, utilizing a new bio-logging system (developed by Dr. Matt Gaidica) to study the impact of the Shank3 gene — associated with the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) —on the social behavior of prairie voles in semi-natural field enclosures.

In her spare time, Mengxiao enjoys drawing, singing and photography. Her favorite animals are horses, and she hopes to own a dog and a cat someday.
