Partners/Resources

The Carceral State Project’s Documenting Criminalization and Confinement research initiative is dedicated to public engagement, campus outreach, and community partnerships. See the separate pages in this section for DCC’s videotaped panel discussions and public events, more information about our community partners, and additional U-M resources in areas related to the carceral state. The DCC’s formal partnerships with other University of Michigan organizations and units are listed below.

The Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) brings those impacted by the justice system and the U-M community into artistic collaboration for mutual learning and growth, including arts programming, exhibits, and publications. DCC partners with PCAP through the Documenting Prison Education and the Arts and Confronting Conditions of Confinement research projects.
The Michigan-Mellon Project on Egalitarianism and the Metropolis is a Detroit-focused initiative that unites the urban humanities and urban designers around themes of social justice and practices of collaborative community-based research and education. DCC partners with the Michigan-Mellon Project through the Detroit as a Carceral Space research initiative.
The Bentley Historical Library collects materials about the histories of the state of Michigan and the University of Michigan. The archive is located on the North Campus and is free and open to the public. DCC is partnering with the Bentley to preserve the physical archive of the research materials acquired by project teams, including those in the digital database and the transcription and storage of oral interviews.
