Lloyd Simpson

Ph.D. student (History)

Lloyd is a Ph.D. student in the Department of History at the University of Michigan and a 2021 graduate of Wayne State University, where he majored in African American Studies (AAS) with a minor in History. His research focus includes Black Marxism, labor history, and the Black Freedom Struggle. He is specifically interested in understanding the function of police as an extension of state power. Lloyd is also a member of Detroit Will Breathe, a radical direct action organization that grew out of the mass movement that took form in the wake George Floyd’s murder.
