{"id":6131,"date":"2025-06-07T20:49:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-07T20:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.lsa.umich.edu\/detroit-river-story-lab\/?p=6131"},"modified":"2026-05-13T17:39:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T17:39:11","slug":"youth-leadership-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.lsa.umich.edu\/detroit-river-story-lab\/youth-leadership-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Leadership Council"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">The Detroit River Scholars Youth Leadership Council, a collaborative project of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.lsa.umich.edu\/detroit-river-story-lab\/detroit-river-education-coalition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5828\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Detroit River Education Coalition<\/a>, provides unique learning and leadership opportunities for young adults who have been part of past Coalition programs. The nine appointed council members meet monthly to participate in a river-related educational activity sponsored by a Coalition partner and to provide evaluative feedback to guide the development of future programming. Through workshops, field trips, and project planning meetings, Council members, aged 15-25, engage with community leaders, develop project design and assessment skills, and explore water-linked educational and career pathways in STEM fields, public humanities, and skilled trades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">2025 Council Activities:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-medium-font-size\">\n<li>January \u2013 <a
