Ed Nowak had one of the most compelling stories on the street. The Nowak Hardware store was on the street from 1926 through 2001. His father opened it and Ed closed it down. He was also active in the Chene Business Association and had their archive at his home. He was a witness to the 1967 riots and spoke about it with some emotion. I did two interviews with him, the first in October 2002 and the second in August 2003.
