Meet DISC Director, Professor Pauline Jones

Meet Professor Pauline Jones, Director of  DISC, as well as Director of the University of Michigan International Institute. Professor Jones is also a professor in the political science department here at U-M. Professor Jones holds degrees from University of California-Berkley, as well as Harvard University. Her work contributes to the study of institutional origin, change, and impact, subnational identities in emerging states and states with transitioning economies. She also focuses on states with abundant natural resources, and states with a predominately Muslim population. Although the empirical basis for her work comes largely from the former Soviet Union, Professor Jones has utilized controlled case comparisons and statistical analysis to engage in comparisons across regions like Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. Professor Jones has published numerous articles, and written several books, including an upcoming book titled, Islam, Society and Politics in Central Asia.
