Islamic History Podcast

As podcasts gain increased popularity, more and more podcasts are released covering a wide array of topics, from comedy, to politics, to history, like the Islamic History Podcast by Muttaqi Ismail. Podcasts like the Islamic History Podcast offer an important learning opportunity to listeners; it’s one thing to learn about Islamic history by reading about it, but a whole other thing to learn by listening to the historical narrative. The structure of a podcast series lends itself to teaching history, largely because podcasts break subject matter down into manageable segments and allow a certain accessibility with regards to history that might otherwise be lacking.

Although the Islamic History Podcast covers a vast amount of time in relation to the history of Islam, Muttaqi Ismail attempts to use Islamic history as a learning tool while also discovering this history in a fun and interesting way. Since starting the podcast, Muttaqi Ismail has released three seasons, the most recent episodes having been released in mid-September, 2017. In each episode, Muttaqi Ismail covers everything from wars, plagues and apostasy, to the final days of the Prophet’s life. An early episode of the podcast explores the first 100 years following the death of the Prophet, as well as the election of Abu Bakr as his successor, for example. Each episode offers a new and unique way of thinking and learning about Islamic history.

Even though episodes of season one of the Islamic History Podcast are scarce, the iTunes store, as well as other podcast outlets on the internet offer recent episodes, beginning from season 2. You can check them out here!
