By Meghan Hough – January 16, 2018

On January 16th, Steven Salaita, a Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Activist and Independent Scholar gave a lecture titled, “Inter/Nationalism: Decolonizing Native America and Palestine.” In his talk, Salaita argued that American Indian and Indigenous studies must play a more central role in the scholarship and activism focusing on Palestine.

Salaita sought to draw parallels between American Indian and Indigenous studies and Palestinian studies by examining concepts such as settler colonialism, indigeneity, and state violence.

A community Q & A session was held following the lecture.

Steven Salaita is a political writer, and a former professor.

This event was sponsored by the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies, the Digital Islamic Studies Curriculum, and the Arab and Muslim American Studies program.
