Printed on verso: The Detroit River serving the industrial and commercial needs of both Detroit and Windsor Ontario is a vital link in the St. Lawrence Seaway system. This river also provides varied recreation in boating and fishing. The Detroit skylines with Renaissance Center Ambassador Bridge and terminal facilities are seen in this unusual aerial view.

Sepia-toned photo showing an elevated view of the Detroit River near the foot of Griswold Street in Detroit. The view shows three tugboats towing one of nine steel tube segments upstream to the area near the foot of St. Antoine Street. After the segments were maneuvered into position they were sunk in a trench along the river bottom and then connected together to form the future vehicle tunnel between Detroit and Windsor Ontario. One of the tugboats is pushing the floating segment while two are towing. (A fourth tugboat was also used but is not visible in this photo.) Two passenger ferries can be seen underway in the distance along with the Windsor shoreline. The top portion of an informational sign for “Parking Str. Tashmoo Port Huron” can be seen in the foreground at the lower edge of the photo. A typewritten label on the verso gives more details about the construction work and notes “Photo courtesy of Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas Inc.”
