EHAP Research Award

The Evolution and Human Adaptation Program (EHAP) offers a number of small research awards for graduate and undergraduate students working with faculty on research projects that address an important theoretical or empirical area relevant to evolution and human adaptation, which can include areas of overlap from animal behavior, medicine, psychology, economics, philosophy, and other fields. EHAP was established at the University of Michigan in 1986 under the sponsorship of the Rackham Graduate School and the Office of the Provost.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is April 30 of each academic year. Notifications will be made on May 30 each year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be actively pursuing an undergraduate, masters, or doctoral degree at the University of Michigan. Applicants may be at any stage of their education and are eligible to receive an award only once in a given degree program.

Selection Criteria

Award recipients will have demonstrated exceptional scholarly achievement, communicated a clear project (with stated goals and a strong methodology for achieving these goals), and developed a project that addresses an important theoretical or empirical area relevant to evolutionary approaches to human adaptation. Priority will be given to students whose projects demonstrate a strong research design, are feasible in the time period specified, and that specifically link their research to EHAP’s focus. Projects are not limited to research on humans but non-human research should clearly state the relevance to evolution and human adaptation. Undergraduate and graduate applications will be evaluated in separate competitions having the same deadline.

Award Description

Awards are for up to $1,000 each and can be used for any research purposes (e.g. supplies, use of core facilities, travel, per diem in field).

EHAP would like to thank the following speakers for our seminar series for generously donating their honoraria to the research fund:

  • Tina Lasisi (October 28th 2020)
