Vocabulary overviews for PAST German 101/102/103 courses using the textbook Vorsprung [searchable Google docs!]

To practice the vocabulary for each chapter, go to the OLD German 101 Quizlet folder (Kapitel 1-6) or the OLD German 102 Quizlet folder (Kapitel 7-11). You can also preview the German 231 vocabulary here.

Suggested procedure:

  • Work on one chapter at a time; re-visit earlier chapters regularly
  • Be sure to turn on the German audio (Settings/Options > turn ON “Text to speech” and then turn OFF the English audio in the “Advanced text to speech” setting that becomes available when you turn on “Text to speech”). Do your best to imitate the audio when you read the German side of the cards!
  • Spend 10-15 minutes at a time going through the cards. For each card, try to form a very simple sentence with the word as quickly as you can, and say it out loud
    • Your sentences can be as simple as “[Noun] ist groß/klein/abstrakt; Ich mag [Noun] (nicht); Ich [Verb] (nicht) gern; Ich bin (nicht) [Adjective/Adverb]
    • Absurd/surreal sentences can be fun & effective. Keep them simple & picture them!
    • Can’t think of a sentence right away? Just say the word out loud and move on.
    • Here are some ideas for forming simple sentences quickly.
