A Word from the Assistant Dean
Paula Di Rita Wishart, Assistant Dean of Student Development and Career Initiatives, shares her experience leading out the Hub from its genesis to its growth into an organization that is poised to scale career learning and opportunities to more LSA students then ever before.
“For the past five years, we have worked to build an infrastructure that’s connected to the incredible LSA community that would serve as the foundation for this kind of student support. This includes mentorship programs, internships, job opportunities, courses, coaching, career eLearning, and so much more. We are well on our way and this impact report will give you a glimpse into the path that has gotten us to this point.”
Our Vision & Mission
We are a transformative career exploration center deeply committed to serving undergraduate liberal arts and sciences students at the University of Michigan.
Earlier this year, we concretely defined the who and what of the Hub so that supporters like you can understand the meaning and purpose of our work with students. Read our vision and mission statements below to find out how we are paving the way forward for student-centered career support and professional development—and why this work is important.
Follow along our students’ journeys.
LSA students journey beyond U-M ready to contribute to the world. Hear from a handful of LSA students about how the Hub supported them to gain first-hand experience, knowledge, resources, and skills that put them on the path to pursue their professional goals — so they too can make an impact wherever they go.
Embedded in each student image are the facts and figures that tell the story of the Hub’s impact. Click on the blinking icons to see our data stories.

We’ve built something new and enduring.
We’ve learned our approach works.
In 2019, with the generous support of LSA alums David and Joan Evans, the Hub embarked on an ambitious assessment project to understand how Hub programming, services, and courses aided LSA students in achieving career success.
We settled on predictors of career success that are both tried and tested, and adapted for students gaining a rich education in the liberal arts and sciences: self-efficacy, career exploration, career reflection, and flexibility.
After two years, we’ve discovered that students who use Hub services improve significantly* on each one of these powerful predictors of career success post-graduation, confirming the impact of the Hub in propelling students forward to meet their career aspirations and goals.
*Students improved on each of the four outcomes after coming to Hub services for both of the two years we have measured them. The change for each was large and significant, and the degree of change was similar for each trait for each year. On the five-point scales, the average size of the change for 2020-21 was .69 for self-efficacy, .28 for flexibility, .60 for reflection, and .87 for exploration.
And we’re just getting started.
We’ve mapped out the following organizational priorities that will pave the path forward for the Hub and shape the way we serve LSA undergraduate students.
