The Infection Prevention in Aging Research Group is a collaborative translational research group focusing on reducing infections and antimicrobial resistance in older adults to enhance quality of care, disease outcomes and patient safety.
Our Goals
- Reduce infections in older adults
- Reduce colonization with multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) in older adults
- Define the complex relationship between antimicrobial resistance, healthcare worker contamination, environmental contamination and functional disability in a nursing home (NH) setting
Setting
Our group has created a rich, productive relationship with various NHs in Southeast Michigan that have been eager to do research projects with us. Our patient-oriented studies in a NH population have been recognized by several awards at the American Geriatrics Society Annual meetings.
Our translational approach to infection control and prevention in nursing homes has created several collaborations with faculty from General Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Health Services Research, School of Nursing and the School of Public Health.
