Lettersmith is a digital tool developed by the Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) to help people write professional communications, including cover letters and emails. With I2A, Lettersmith is expanding to support high school students as they draft, revise, and write materials for their post-high school and college applications.

With Lettersmith, students:

Find guides for writing the Common App essay, college-specific essays, scholarship essays, or a personal statement, brag sheet, or cover letter

Access tips, resources, and a checklist of best practices specific to each kind of writing

See examples of each kind of writing from peers

Get feedback on drafts from experts and peers

The Lettersmith writing tool builds on the collaborative expertise of a writing community to produce guidance that is specific to a student’s individual communication goals. 

The Lettersmith team is made up of designers, developers, behavioral scientists, researchers, and students who work to ensure a pleasant and meaningful experience for Lettersmith users.
