National Geographic Explorer’s Festival

Jacinta Beehner delivers a TED-esque talk on “The Secret Lives of Geladas” at the National Geographic Explorer’s Festival in Washington, D.C.  She highlights how female geladas will terminate their pregnancies in response to the arrival of a new dominant male. It’s gruesome, but – turns out –  it’s also adaptive for these females since new males kill infants that are not their own. Check out the entire talk here.
