
Bihter Esener
Director of Digital Technologies
Bihter Esener is a College Fellow in Northwestern University’s Art History Department, which she will join as Assistant Professor next year. She is an art historian of the visual and material cultures of the medieval Islamic world, with a special interest in Armenian, Byzantine, and Persian-Islamic artistic exchange and cultural encounters in medieval Anatolia, the South Caucasus, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Before joining Northwestern, she was a lecturer in the Department of the History of Art at the University of Michigan, where she was also an affiliated faculty at the Digital Studies Institute (DSI). She is a founding member of Khamseen and its Director of Digital Technologies.
