Nehal Al-Shamy is an MA student at the American University in Cairo (AUC), and this academic year she is also a Forsyth Visiting Graduate Student Fellow in the Department of the History of Art at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on late Ottoman artistic and architectural traditions in Egypt and Turkey. She worked at the AUC’s Rare Books and Special Collections Library, where she transcribed historical Ottoman documents, and she also taught art history in various non-profit organizations. Additionally, she was a researcher in the “Patterns of Cairo” project at Megawra, a heritage management organization in Cairo, as well as in “La Fabrique du Caire Moderne” project at Duke University. She is the Glossary Coordinator of Khamseen.
