Omri Zemler

Omri Zemler is a doctoral student in the History Department at the University of Michigan. His research explores cultural exchange between Safavid Iran and Western Europe, focusing on identity, alterity, and cross-cultural translation through art and text. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in History and Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he also taught elementary Persian. Omri’s Master’s thesis, entitled “A Tale of Two Çafhras: Ethnography and Identity in the Iranian Parts of Don Gracía de Silva y Figueroa’s Comentarios,” examines the discursive strategies employed by a Spanish ambassador to the Safavid court to negotiate cultural affinities and religious tensions between early modern Iberia and Iran.
