ALI Hosts First Webinar – Academic Leadership Institute

ALI Hosts First Webinar

Last October, the Academic Leadership Institute held its first webinar, “Leadership and Diversity in a COVID-19 Environment: Planning for Higher Education on the Brink.” The webinar convened national higher education leaders from geographically and organizationally diverse institutions: Lynn Perry Wooten, the 9th overall and first African American president of Simmons College; Enobong Anna Branch, SVP for Equity at Rutgers University — New Brunswick; and Tokumbo Shobowale, EVP for Business and Operations at The New School. The panel was moderated by Earl Lewis, Director of the Center for Social Solutions and co-founder of the Academic Leadership Institute with Dwight A. McBride, who moderated the Q&A portion of the event.

Panelists spoke with Dr. Lewis about how previous experiences prepared them for leading during the tumultuous year, how they maintain their humanity and not be “othered” as the administration, and how racism continues to persist, even at the highest levels of leadership.

The second ALI webinar, “Budget: Friend or Foe When Advancing a Diversity Agenda”, will be held on February 26, 2021. Stay tuned for registration.
