We are proud to announce the appointment of Mariko Silver as the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ new president. Silver joined the Academic Leadership Institute as a 2023 faculty member.
Silver previously served as president and CEO of the Henry Luce Foundation, and prior to this role was president of Bennington College from 2013 to 2019. During the Obama administration, she served for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as Acting Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Policy. President Silver also served for Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as the Policy Advisor for Economic Development, Innovation, and Higher Education. Prior to her government service, President Silver was instrumental in the transformation and expansion of Arizona State University, leading teams in economic development policy and metrics, science, technology, and innovation policy, state K-12 and higher education policy, sustainability science, and global health. She holds a Ph.D. in Economic Geography from UCLA; MSc in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU, University of Sussex (UK), and B.A. in History from Yale University.
In an announcement August 7, the Associated Press noted that “Silver will join planning that has begun for a redevelopment of the western side of Lincoln Center’s campus, for six decades far less visible than the eastern side in which most people enter from Broadway.” As president, Silver hopes “to make Lincoln Center inspirational and aspirational for everyone,” continuing to focus on classical arts as the core of Lincoln Center’s programming.
Mariko Silver will begin her role as president on September 23, 2024. We congratulate her on this achievement and extend our best wishes as she assumes this new role!
