Starting a blog about STEM education in 2020!

I’m a fan of the BBC show Downton Abbey and also read a lot of science fiction. The blog title “Teaching in an H.G. Wells Novel” was inspired by a line in Downton Abbey “First electricity, now telephones. Sometimes I feel as if I were living in an H.G. Wells novel.” delivered by Maggie Smith. Hearing this line made me think of a conversation I once had with my grandmother when she contrasted her experiences traveling in horse and buggy as a young girl and later on a jet as an older adult.  She witnessed tremendous change in her lifetime and we are witnessing even more rapid change. As science educators, we have the opportunity to teach our students about amazing scientific breakthroughs using technology that a few short years ago existed only in our imaginations.
