Need help finding or navigating your relationship with your advisor?

Probably the number one worry I hear from graduate students is navigating the relationship with their advisor: how to find/approach/talk to/get along with this faculty mentor who looms so large in their careers.

Please! Consider attending a Rackham workshop this Thursday designed specifically for this purpose. Yes, math is a little but different than other fields, but at the core, the same issues plague all students in all fields, and Rackham has an evidenced-based program to really, truly, make your life better.  Register here.

Rackham has several programs over the coming months that promise to be rewarding for math grad students. For example, on Thursdays thoughout this semester, Rackham offers workshops on

Writing a Diversity Statement,

Managing Procrastination,

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome,

Designing your CV,

Time Management

Interviewing for Non-academic jobs

and much more! It is always worth paying attention to what Rackham has to offer, which goes beyond the programming to the opportunity to interact with students, faculty and deans outside math who may become friends, mentors, sources of information and funding. I have been truly surprised by the number of times some random encounter with someone I met at these kinds of events influenced my career (and life and and bank account!) in positive ways. Ask me and I’ll tell you more.

P.S. Please help me spread the word about this blogsite. My goal is to have PhD student in Math and AIM, and every MLB student, sign up for the blog notifications! Scroll to the bottom of the welcome page to sign up.
