Congrats to Summer Research Grants recipients!

Academic mathematicians need to write strong research proposals. Your professors typically apply for research grants on a three-year cycle (for example, from NSF), writing a fifteen page proposal and then an annual report every year on the progress.

This year we were fortunate to have sufficient funds to offer students with no other source of funding Math department summer research grants of $4.5K. Students wrote a 1-2 page proposal outlining the research they plan to conduct for the summer, and will write a 1-2 report on their results in August.

The following students received grants:

John Holler

Dan Irvine

Patrick Kelly

Harry Lee

Andrew Odesky

Matthew Olsson

Salman Siddiqi

Alex Vargo

Nathan Vaughn

Alexander Zaitzeff

Students wrote great proposals! It was very interesting to read what everyone is up to. Congrats to all!

We very much hope to be able to do this every summer, though the amount may vary. In particular, please be warned that because more incoming graduate students accepted our offers than we expected this year, we may have limited funds next summer.
