research abroad

U-M Chemistry has cooperative relationships with some international universities to provide summer undergraduate research experiences for U-M students. Our international colleagues have created research courses for the U-M students to take, and U-M has set these opportunities as study abroad courses that are eligible for research credit in the degree programs offered by the department of chemistry.

From 2007-2011, we were fortunate to have received funding support from the National Science Foundation, some private U-M donors, and our partner schools (Peking and Tsinghua Universities) to create a bilateral Research Experiences for Undergraduates site. This program is no longer funded.

Currently, U-M students will be enrolled at our partner schools, and qualified students will receive a full tuition waiver from the host institution, and a transcript for the research class will be issued. Students and/or their home institutions are responsible for all other expenses unless otherwise specified.

Currently, these courses are not registered through CGIS and so students are not eligible to use their financial aid packages to support their expenses. Credit is transferred as general course credit, so specific equivalents should be arranged ahead of time.
