Archiving History

I started with Earth and Environmental Sciences (then Geological Sciences) in 1990. Over the years I’ve accumulated an enormous archive of drawings, graphics, and photographs. My index print-outs filled almost 50 large three-ring binders. Last sumer I arranged with the Bentley Library to take my archives. The first installment of 12 banker’s boxes went to North Campus last fall. Another 6 are almost prepared today.

In addition to the printed materials, I have to construct an index database for the graphics as well as the photographs. That is about 150,000 digital files to describe and transfer to the Library in the next year or so. The good news is I’ve got the photographs almost done-all 65,000 of them-part of a personal project I’ve been involved in for more than a decade.
