My 2002 Frequency Effects paper is one of the most cited of the papers that have been published in Studies in Second Language Acquisition. It was therefore selected as the subject of an interview for their 40th anniversary year. The interview explains the history of the paper which became a target article followed by a dozen commentaries and my response. (10 minutes)
The EuroSLA (2021) conference was sadly delayed one year by COVID-19, then made virtual the next, preventing us from gathering in beautiful Barcelona. However, at least this meant that there is a usable recording that allows dense summary. I was asked to give a plenary presentation at the International Cognitive Linguistics Conference (ICLC-14) held in Tartu, Estonia, 10-14 July, 2017 on the theme of Usage-based approaches to language, language acquisition, and language processing. Our University of Tartu hosts at did a great job in organizing the conference and recording the talks. It was about the time I, Ute Römer, and Matt O’Donnell published our book on these themes. I was invited to serve as discussant for the papers in the symposium on Implicit Language Aptitude at AAAL 2021, another conference made virtual by the pandemic.
