I am an artist who found my talent to paint after I was incarcerated and I lost everything. Painting gave me a reason and a purpose to keep going during my darkest days, and it has become an important way for me to cope with all of the troubles of my life. I put my heart and soul into each of my paintings, and the world of my imagination is invoked in each original piece. Very often, they tap into deep traumas that I have experienced in my past and even as a way to bring closure that I never had a chance to have in my life.
I am also a writer and a philosopher who is attempting to go back to school and restart my life. Things aren’t easy for me, but I have always preferred a challenge anyways. I will continue to produce work and writings for as long as I am allowed, and I hope that someday I can find some appreciation for all of the hundreds of paintings and the dozen stories that I have made.
Daryl Rattew is available for commissioned acrylic paintings and illustration.
