“Even though some of us are different we are still useful and can bring joy to others.” – Melissa Flores
Currently based out of Westland, Michigan, Melissa uses mixed media such as printmaking, acrylics, Gelli print, and inks to create pieces that channel previous trauma in physical representation. Speaking to art as a form of therapy, she is dedicated to spreading her wisdom with anyone willing to listen, hoping to find ways to invoke positive change on the world in a capacity that represents her own built passions.
Through PCAP, Mellissa learned printmaking, which was a pivotal aspect of her discovery in creating what she saw, which was not always pleasant. Channeling that into representations taught her how to enhance conversations and remind her of the ability she has to treasure printmaking as an outlet for locked emotion. She is invested in the idea of visualizing things, by drawing specifically what she sees and is dedicated to producing one or two pieces a week in order to keep creativity a practice in her daily life. Through this, Melissa has been able to find new avenues for sharing her story and those of others that formulate a large series of artistic rabbit holes in order to produce products found through the act of exploration.
Melissa currently has an LLC as Missfit Society Creations, a name in which she came up with in attempting to bring attention to those who feel they are represented as misfits in society. The idea, which circulates the power those individuals bring into the world through found variations of identity and voices, seeks to promote Melissa’s mission of making a true difference in the world. From Angel Tree to art therapy, Melissa is forever dedicated to acting as a force of change through using art as a practice to escape and release anything locked away within us.
