Meet the Revel team

Dr. Amie Gordon

Principal Investigator

Amie Gordon is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan, where she directs the Well-being, Health, and Interpersonal Relationships Lab (WHIRLab). Her research is driven by her desire to understand why some relationships work and others don’t. She hopes to uncover ways to help relationships thrive. When not working, she can usually be found trying to corral her family into going outside to enjoy the seasons (she grew up in California, so fall leaves and snow are still novel), or reading a good book.

Dr. Elizabeth Bruch

Principal Investigator

Elizabeth Bruch is an Associate Professor in Sociology and Complex Systems at the University of Michigan, and an external faculty member at the Santa Fe Institute. She studies how we stumble our way through major life decisions like where to live, who to date or marry, and what major to pursue in college. She has worked with online dating data for more than a decade, publishing papers on topics such as deal-breakers and dating out of your league. In her spare time, she enjoys making up silly songs and chasing after her son.

Dr. Tatum Jolink

Postdoctoral Researcher

Tatum Jolink is an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Social Psychology at the University of Michigan. She studies what makes a good social interaction with the people we care about or could care about. In her postdoc, she is examining predictors of relationship formation starting from initial interactions like a first date. She is interested in the affiliative behaviors (e.g., touch, laughter) and the role of the body (e.g., sickness, stress, sleep) underpinning successful social interactions with close others. Tatum enjoys spending time with friends and family, moving her body, hanging with her dog, and watching television and film. One day, she hopes to write a film screenplay all about relationships.

Annika From

Graduate Student Researcher

Annika From is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Michigan. She studies how similarities and differences between romantic partners in areas such as personality, beliefs, and social identities influence relationship functioning, and how couples manage and think about these (dis)similarities. She loves reading, doing crossword puzzles, and eating sushi!

Emily Diamond

Graduate Student Researcher

Emily Diamond is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Michigan. She studies how people form and maintain meaningful connections with others. She is particularly interested in understanding whether synchronous moments—in which people converge in their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and/or physiologies—play a key role in the formation and maintenance of relationships. In her spare time, Emily likes to adventure outside, whether it’s going on long hikes, backpacking, or rock climbing.

Savannah Adams

Graduate Student Researcher

Savannah Adams is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on how people apply moral judgments to others and how moral cognition is shaped by social contexts. She is also interested in the impacts of computer-mediated communication on interactions in real-life settings. When she has spare time, she likes to hang out with her dogs and draw portraits of her friends and family.

Noemie Durand

Study Coordinator

Noemie Durand is the Project Manager for the Dating App Study. She started her undergraduate degree in 2023 and is majoring in Psychology and Sociology with a sub-major in Social Work and a minor in LGBTQ+ Studies. She is interested in reciprocation and alternative methods of treatment for mental illnesses. She is hoping to pursue a master’s degree and PhD, and she would like to engage in both clinical and research endeavors in her career. She has one beautiful baby boy (her cat Bison) and loves anything chocolate!

Debbie Diamond

Graphic Designer

Debbie Diamond is the founder and creative lead of Diamond Design, a graphic design studio in Portland, Oregon. She started her company in Chicago after completing her BFA at the University of Illinois.
