Our lab is equipped with ion mobility-mass spectrometry instrument in the form of Synapt G2 and G2-S instrument (Waters). These are the primary instruments we use for our research purpose.
Synapt G2 and G2-S have similar instrument schematics, with a few differences. The Synapt G2-S provides a 30x improvement in signal intensity, a 5x improvement in signal-to-noise, and a 10-fold improvement on limits of quantification. Overall, the G2-S offers greater sensitivity compared to the G2. (Please refer to May, J. C., et al. (2015). “Ion mobility-mass spectrometry: time-dispersive instrumentation.” Anal Chem 87(3): 1422-1436 for a more detailed comparison.)
