ABOUT US
THESE MATERIALS WERE DEVELOPED BY A GROUP OF SCIENTISTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE RESEARCH TEAM BELOW!
DR. PRITI SHAH

Priti Shah is Professor of Psychology, Information, and Education and a Faculty Associate in the Research Center for Group Dynamics of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on higher level cognition (thinking, reasoning, problem solving), the basic cognitive mechanisms supporting these abilities (executive functions, attention), and educational application. She has edited 3 volumes and published over 70 articles and chapters. Learn more about Dr. Shah’s work here.
DR. Audrey michal

Audrey Michal is a cognitive psychologist with experience studying topics related to cognitive neuroscience, data visualization, and scientific reasoning. In her current line of research she investigates the best way to teach middle and high school students scientific reasoning skills. She works as a research associate with the Basic and Applied Cognition Lab as well as a Lecturer at University of Michigan.
DR. MADISON ADKINS

Madison Adkins is a Research Fellow and Lecturer at University of Michigan. Madison is interested in higher level cognition including topics related to scientific and statistical reasoning, problem solving, and critical thinking. She is interested in examining the basic processes underlying willingness to exert cognitive effort as well as methods to improve thinking and reasoning in applied settings.
DR. Colleen SEIFERT

Colleen Seifert is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Psychology at University of Michigan. Her research interests lie in complex human cognition, including memory, learning, problem solving, and creativity. With her collaborators, she currently investigating cognitive accounts of creative thinking, and ways to improve the creative process. She is invested in improving learning and pedagogy in design, higher education, and applications in the public interest.
DR. EYTAN ADAR

Eytan Adar is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and an Associate Professor of Information at University of Michigan. Eytan’s work is at the boundary of HCI and Data Mining. Specific research projects range from modeling behaviors at a very large-scale (search, social networks evolution, learning, meme and rumor spread, programming, text production and consumption, etc.) to the integration of AI technologies into user-facing interfaces. Learn more about Eytan’s work here.
DR. HARI SUBRAMONYAM

Hari Subramonyam is an Assistant Professor (Research) at the Graduate School of Education and a Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) at Stanford University. He is also a member of the HCI Group at Stanford. Hari’s research focuses on augmenting critical human tasks (such as learning, creativity, and sensemaking) with AI by incorporating principles from cognitive psychology. He also investigates support tools for multidisciplinary teams to co-design human-centered AI experiences.
DR. RICHARD GONZALEZ

Rich Gonzalez is an Amos N. Tversky Collegiate Professor of Psychology and Statistics at University of Michigan. His research interests are in judgment and decision making broadly defined. He studies both normative and descriptive decision making using a variety of techniques including mathematical modeling, surveys, field observations, and experimental lab studies. He’s recently extended his decision making research to applied settings in product design and medical decision making as well as developing new models for the integration of biological and behavioral data https://biosocialmethods.isr.umich.edu/.
