Shenika Hankerson earned her M.A. in Written Communication (Concentration: The Teaching of Writing) from Eastern Michigan University and Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing from Michigan State University. She has over fifteen years of experience working as a teacher, mentor, and researcher in K-U settings. She is the recipient of the 2015 NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award and 2015 CCCC Scholars for the Dream Award.
Dr. Hankerson research explores the intersections among race, class, language, writing, and equity, particularly as these relate to urban African American adolescent and young adult culture. She has published in Language Arts Journal of Michigan and AGEP Science Today Bulletin.
