This text originates from the spectacular PhD thesis of Dr. Zheng Gao. The work brings ideas and results from extreme value theory to provide a new phase-transition results on the exact support recovery problem in high-dimensional statistics. Many more results on the characterization of the finite-sample Bayes optimal exact support recovery procedures, concentration of maxima for Gaussian triangular arrays, as well as applications to statistical genetics are presented.
