Kimmy VanDeWege – Sustainable Food Systems Initiative

Kimmy VanDeWege

Kimmy is a graduate student earning her MPH in Nutritional Sciences with a concentration in dietetics. After earning a B.S. studying art education at Miami University, Kimmy completed a holistic chef’s training program in New York City (2018) which fueled her passion for nutrition.

Since then, she has worked at a gluten-free bakery in Brooklyn, NY and as a vegan baker at The Lunch Room here in Ann Arbor, where Kimmy learned how to create recipes for people with specialized diets. Kimmy’s recent internship with the Today Show included creating food videos and food photography for Joy Bauer.

Inspired by a weight bias class with Professor Kendrin Sonneville, Kimmy plans to become a Registered Dietitian for people living in all body sizes. She prioritizes culturally relevant foods and recognizes that health is connected to more than just eating spinach, but it’s connected to race, the systems we are a part of, and the ways we live our daily lives. Kimmy is committed to working to create a world where health can be attainable for all of us.
