Using the Pavlovian Conditioned Approach (PCA) procedure we are able to study the extent to which cues that predict a food reward come to exert control over behavior. Interestingly, two distinct behavioral phenotypes emerge during PCA: Sign-tracking- when animals approach and engage with a cue that predicts reward and goal-tracking- when animals do not approach the cue and instead during the presentation of the cue go to the location where the reward will be delivered.
