SUMMARY: On the morning of April 8th, 2022, the train station in the city of Kramatorsk was hit by an air strike during a mass evacuation. Witnesses to this incident range from different volunteers to civilians trying to evacuate to safer areas. One witness ended up having to get her leg amputated. A young girl lost her mother in the shelling and received significant injuries to her lower limbs. Another witness lost her twin sister at the station and is now the caretaker of her deceased sister’s children. It was confirmed by the head of the Kramatorsk train station that the vast majority of the evacuees were civilians and there were practically no soldiers at the station. This was not an isolated incident. Another witness to the train station attack, who is from Popasna in the Luhansk Region, says they were also under intensive bombardment in Popasna around the clock even though there were no military objects nearby.

WITNESSES

The witnesses of the incident included railway employees, volunteers, coordinators, doctors, journalists, and evacuees, most of whom were present at the time of the attack. They were men, women, and children, who were all civilians.

VICTIMS

There were anywhere between 1000-4000 civilians present at the railway at the time of the attack, the majority of whom were women, children, and the elderly. At least 162 people were wounded and killed as a result of the shelling.

ALLEGED PERPETRATORS

The shelling of the railway station took place from a distance. The witnesses were unable to determine the precise length and location from which the attack was executed.
