38. Detention and torture of civilian, shelling and killing of civilians

SUMMARY: On March 5, 2022, Russian forces detained a male civilian, and beat and tortured him in a nearby home. The next morning, the civilian witnessed his captors fire upon a civilian convoy (Incident 43). He was released late on March 8 but did not go outside until the next day, when he found the corpses of seven civilians. The Witness then found the corpse of another civilian man several days later, whom he had found hiding in a building the night before.

The Witness of the incident was a male civilian who worked as a security guard.
VICTIMS
The Victims of the incident, in addition to the Witness mentioned above, were civilians part of an evacuation convoy, some of whom were shot and killed. There was also a male civilian who worked as a guard at the former Ukrainian checkpoint, whom the Witness found dead with bullet wounds.

The perpetrators were members of the Russian military who varied in rank and were aged between late teens and 30s. The soldiers spoke pure Russian.
