SUMMARY: On April 3, 2022, Russian forces detained a local journalist at his home and confiscated his laptop, phone, and 1,500 hryvnias from his wallet. He was held in the Kakhovka District Police Department, where he was repeatedly interrogated and beaten until his release on April 6. His release was contingent on expressing pro-Russian views on camera. He was summoned to the Nova Kakhovka City Council on May 13 and forced by his former interrogators to work as the local newspaper’s editor, but he did not acquiesce. He was interrogated again on July 10 and was forbidden to further engage in journalism.
