We are proud to recognize Scholars Network member Daphne C. Watkins, Ph.D. as recipient of the Pynn-Silverman Lifetime Achievement Award from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA). Dr. Watkins is a University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor and Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan. She is also a second wave scholar of The Scholars Network.
According to TAA, the Pynn-Silverman Lifetime Achievement Award was established “to honor individuals whose achievements over a career of devoted effort and service demonstrate the highest degree of commitment to excellence in authoring works to advance their discipline; encourage, enlighten and support the work of colleagues; and educate students in the field. The award is named for Ron Pynn and Franklin Silverman, two charter members of TAA who pursued and modeled these qualities in their own work.” TAA cites Dr. Watkins’ 85 articles, 9 book chapters, and 3 books as evidence of her outstanding level of contribution to the scholarly landscape.
Dr. Watkins’ research focuses on behavioral interventions for historically marginalized groups,mixed methods approaches to research in context, and leadership development & organizational management. She is director of the Vivian A. and James L. Curtis Center for Health Equity Research and Training and founding director of the Gender and Health Research (GendHR) Lab, the Certificate Program in Mixed Methods Research, and the award-winning Young Black Men, Masculinities, and Mental Health (YBMen) Project.
